The Proposal: On Top Of The World

“Meet me at the Lakeway Fred Meyer tomorrow at 5:45 and we’ll ride to dinner together.”

This is where our proposal story began. The next day we went to church in the morning and then I went home to get ready. Though I had no idea what he had planned, all I knew is that my grandma had told me “Make sure and wear a jacket.” and that my mother had been extra worried about what the weather would be like on that day.

When I got to Fred Meyer he said that we needed to go inside so I could pick out a kite for him to buy for us. My mind instantly started running! A kite? Where are we going? Will there be a ring on the end of the kite? and so forth…

After I picked out a butterfly kite, we drove to downtown Bellingham. We walked to Flatiron building, where Kyle’s family friend (and accomplished chef) Claire met us at the door. We got into the elevator and rode up to the top floor of the building. Then Kyle led me up a few more stairs to the roof! When he opened the door there was a beautiful table set up overlooking all of Bellingham Bay. I must admit, I teared up instantly.

I sat down and noticed he even had Andrea Boccelli playing in the background. We sat and talked for awhile, and pretty soon we were brought up a couple delicious salads. Then, the main course, which consisted of a bacon pesto pasta (YUM). Kyle even had flute glasses engraved with our engagement date on them :)

After we had finished our dinner, Kyle pulled out my chair and asked me to please stand up. He reached into his pocket, got onto one knee, opened the ring box and said…

Tayler… Will you marry me?

Of course it was a teary-eyed yes. I was so overwhelmed with happiness. And best of all, he video taped the whole thing so I will be able to relive this moment over and over for the rest of my life.

Afterward we had dessert and flew our butterfly kite in the perfect windy sunny sky and reminisced about the past year and a half, and day dreamed about what the future might hold for us.

It was such a beautiful and special night. I am so very lucky to have such a thoughtful and loving fiancé.

I love you Kyle Beede. June 30th 2012!
